About
Alexander Scott is a sociologist specializing in the study of politics, political economy, race and class inequality, Latin American and Latino Studies. He currently teaches Sociology and Latin American Studies at the University of California Riverside and Sociology at Fullerton College.
Dr. Scott's research and teaching have been recognized by numerous prestigious awards and fellowships, including the Haynes Lindley Foundation Dissertation Year Fellowship, the Dissertation Year Fellowship Award from the UC Riverside Graduate Division, the Outstanding Teaching Assistant Award from the UC Riverside Graduate Division (2019), the Outstanding Student Paper Award from the UCR Department of Sociology, a Graduate Student Researcher appointment with the UCR Latino and Latin American Studies Research Center, and the SDICCCA Regional Faculty Fellowship, a competitive program identifying and supporting prospective community college faculty across the San Diego and Imperial County region.
He has published on topics including far-right politics and racial authoritarianism, social movements and community organizing, race and critical race theory, policing, inequality and warehouse employment, race and labor market inequality, and Latin American studies. His work has appeared in outlets including Globalizations, Sociological Perspectives, Radical Americas, and Latin American Perspectives. Beyond research and publication, Alexander is a member of the editorial collective of Latin American Perspectives and hosts their Latin American Perspectives and Editor’s Choice Podcasts.
Before completing his Ph.D. (2025) and Master of Arts (2019) degrees at UC Riverside, he studied social studies and Spanish at Soka University of America (BA, Humanities concentration, cum laude graduate) and the Universidad San Francisco de Quito (semester foreign exchange).
